All of us at Superior Mobile Medics truly appreciate all of the work that each and every examiner does for us. So we wanted to address some of the concerns brought to our attention regarding the increased gas prices. Hopefully some of the information below will help you to understand what we have already done or are doing to combat these concerns on your behalf.
SMM compensates examiners higher on average than our competition does to our independent contractors
Over the last several years, most insurance companies have lowered their fees being reimbursed to exam companies. Although this has been the trend for many years now, SMM has NOT reduced the independent contractor fees during these rate reductions.
Some exam companies pay their examiners a gas surcharge. This fee is somewhere from $1.50 to $2.00 or so per case. Our fees have always been higher than this to independent contractor to compensate for mileage in their fees
As an independent contractor mileage is a business expense that can be written off on taxes. Please consult a tax advisor on these benefits so that you can benefit from the full advantage of being an independent contractor
If you are asking for additional mileage on a case, typically we are seeing examiners ask for far more than is the increase shown at the pump.
We want you to know that we understand the dilemma's we are all facing in this industry with the increase in gas prices and we are doing everything we can to make the necessary changes in the areas we are requesting that you travel to complete your exams to keep these costs down. This information provided is only for your information and not a catch all for all cases.
Again, thank you for all of the work you do for us. We here at Superior are dedicated to having a long lasting positive relationship with our examiners!
